History The Monterey Peninsula was first introduced to auto racing in 1950 with the inauguration of the Pebble Beach Road Races. In 1957, the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was built to accommodate the increasing interest in the sport. The introduction of the Trans Am, AMA motorcycles, CART Indy Car racing and Grand Prix Motorcycling increased the popularity of racing at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Today, the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, formerly known as the Laguna Seca Raceway, has played host to some of the most famous races in history.
