The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail covers 18 miles along the bay and Central California coast. It begins in the town of Castroville in the north and goes as far as the hamlet of Pacific Grove in the south. The former Southern Pacific Railway route winds its way along the Pacific Coast through Monterey.
